[TRACK REVIEW] 'LA CANCION' - maye

Maye adds sensuality to an already sexy track by Bad Bunny & J Balvin

RELEASE DATE: 17 APR 2020 GENRE: REGGAETON / POP / R&B

Although it’s not a fresh original track, it’s nice to see maye releasing new stuff even if it's just a cover. We could use some of that calming voice and smooth, floaty R&B feels. I first fell in love with this artist after stumbling upon her song “tu”, which has a mild bossa nova and bedroom pop aesthetic to it. Overall just a great love song.

In ‘La Cancion’, maye transforms the reggaeton song about drunken love into a lustful ballad, where there’s shyness incorporated in the delivery as opposed to the brazen bravado of Bad Bunny & J Balvin’s original. The fat bass and synths that weave in and out around her vocals is super slick. It’s a cool new take, with nothing mind-blowing to serve it. But you know, sometimes I don’t want my mind blown. I just want a salve for my worries.
