New to the Malaysian music scene, Motherwit's showcase of reverb-filled, emotional indie rock first came to my attention with the song 'senjakala' which came out on the indie project, PKP Project Vol 1. 'Senjakala' and all of their releases so far prove motherwit a sort of sonic bridge between late 2000s Malaysian indie rock and the current dream-pop-nostalgia obsessed indie rock.
In these slew of new covers the band puts their own echoey, spacey spins on Sinaran by Sheila Majid, Aku Juga Manusia by Amir Jahari, decode by Paramore and Decorate by Yuna. My personal favourites are their Amir Jahari and Yuna covers - giving the former a darker galactic vibe while putting a noir murder-mystery, sombre post-punk twist on the latter.
